This gorgeous mid century 'Old Spouter' Nantucket pottery whale is a real stunner! Made by Nantucket artists Walter and Grace Karr of Old Spouter pottery, this beautiful piece of Nantucket history is truly a hard-to-find treasure. One of their older pieces, this whale has a gorgeous high gloss speckled glaze and a deep maroon-colored interior. Originally intended to be used as an ashtray, this whale has two notches on his bottom lip and holes for his eyes and spout to release smoke. This piece was never used, as the upper interior near his spout is unglazed ceramic and is still bright white. While it would still make a super stylish way to catch your ashes, this fun piece would also be great for holding a plant, or just for displaying and admiring! It's getting harder and harder to find these pieces, and I have never seen one in this larger size with such a beautiful speckled finish! Truly a whale of a find!

Condition:
➝ In very good condition! One small fleabite chip on the inside corner of the whale's mouth, which a previous owner has colored black to look less noticeable (shown in second to last photo - use zoom tool to view close up). There is a faint hairline crack along the base of the whale extending to his bottom lip (shown in last photo) - it measures about 3.5 inches long, but does not appear to be in any danger of growing. If you have any questions or would like additional photos, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
