Wise Apple Weekly: Shorter Days & Longer Shadows

Welcome to this week's edition of Wise Apple Weekly! This past week, the unseasonably warm weather finally took a turn, and suddenly, it felt like autumn. It seemed as though the leaves began turning colors overnight, the days grew shorter, the shadows became longer and longer, and everything seemed to glow in that warm, orange-y sunlight that only exists this time of year. I hope you all are at least half as big a fan of this season as I am, because this week's post is FULL of autumn-y goodness. So pour yourself a mug a hot apple cider, and let's take a peek at my week, shall we? I kicked things off by visiting Letchworth State Park, one of my favorite fall destinations. There was still a surprising amount of green around, but the forest smelled like fall, and there were plenty of crunchy orange leaves about as well. It was glorious, and I wish I could've brought you all along with me! And you know what? The neighborhood is starting to look pretty darn autumn-y, too, as evidenced by these quick snaps I took on a walk around the block one crisp, sunny day. Back inside the house, I was (of course) excited about my happy little house plants - my String of Pearls plant continues to burst with the cutest little pom-pom blossoms, and my wee cactus finally blossomed as well! The flowers are the prettiest shade of pink, and I love that they close up every night, only to re-open again when the sun rises each morning. I feel ya, little cactus - I'm more of a morning person, too. Last but not least, I had to stop and snap a few photos of the warm, orange-y light flooding into our home this past week. There's just something about the quality of light this time of year that makes everything look so darn dreamy. It makes me feel nostalgic in a way, but not for anything in particular - it just pulls at my heart strings, you know? To quote author L. M. Montogomery, "I'm so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers." Even if sometimes October waits until it's practically November to get crackin'. See you next month, my friends!
